Facts about the dollar
💲New Orleans businessman Oliver Pollock invented the dollar sign on April 1, 1778.
💰 The dollar has been used as a national currency in the USA since 1785.
💰 Pollock took the Spanish peseta (Spanish currency) as a model.
💰 The two lines in the C on the peseta refer to the stolps of Hercules on which the Spanish coat of arms rests.
💰 Two columns wrapped with tape were the edge, end, dead end sign.
💰The inscription on the tape means “nec plus ultra” – “no way”.
💰According to another assumption, the letter S comes from the plural form of the words “dollar” and “peso”. In Spanish, 1 dollar is 2 dolares and 1 peso is 2 pesos, which is where the symbol S is said to come from.
💰 The word “dollar” comes from the German thaler. In Italy – tallero, dalero – in Spain, in Scandinavian countries – daler, in England – dollar – variants of the name have been used.
