[:ru]Слово «барбекю», которое в общем смысле обозначает метод приготовления мяса и других продуктов на углях и открытом огне, давно существует во многих языках мира в различных вариациях.
Считается, что в Европе оно сперва появилось в испанском языке: в форме «barbacoa» оно упоминается в словаре, изданном в 1526 году. В испанский же это слово пришло из Нового Света — коренные жители стран Карибского бассейна называли словом «barabicu» каркас из палок, который размещался над огнем на опорах.
